How the course works

Distance Learning

As part of the distance learning phase students are assigned an online tutor who will be there at all times to support and guide you throughout the course. Communication between students and online tutors is mainly via e-mail although video call tutorials can also be arranged. Once the registration process is complete the students can download the course materials into their computers and start work.

One of the advantages of taking an online TEFL / TESOL Certificate course such as this is its flexibility: you can work at your own pace and have no deadlines for submitting your work.

As you advance through the course units you will be receiving valuable feedback from your online tutor. It is not necessary to be online to work on the course. When you are ready to send in your materials all you need to do is attach your work to an e-mail.

Teaching Practice

For your Teaching Practice you will be teaching real Adult Learners of General English and also Young Learners/ Teenagers. This experience will enable you to teach English effectively in a range of different learning contexts making you a very attractive candidate for a variety of teaching positions.

The teaching practice block involves observed teaching and lesson planning. There are also guided purposeful observations of qualified and experienced teachers.

By the end of the course you will have completed at least 6 hours of observed and assessed teaching practice, which satisfies the British Council set requirements for internationally recognised TEFL / TESOL Certificates.

The start date of the teaching practice block is arranged according to your needs. Let us know in advance when you would like to start and we will make the arrangements for you.

Course Contents

The 220 Hour Certificate in TEFL / TESOL with Teaching Practice consists of a distance learning phase plus a residential teaching practice block:

First you complete the online part of the course from home and learn about theories, methodology and applied practice of TEFL / TESOL. This will allow you to study at your own pace and in your own time. Then you spend one-week of teaching practice with us planning lessons and teaching real classes of students: these will be a range of adult, young and teenage English classes.

Such practical and varied experience will make you a very strong candidate on the TEFL / TESOL market.

The most obvious advantage of this type of course is its flexibility: You can complete the online / distance learning phase at your own pace and then decide when to take the teaching practice block. In any case, we will try to accommodate your needs and availability. It is generally expected that trainees inform the centre of their choice of dates for the teaching practice block four weeks prior to its commencement.

The Teaching Practice block is typically carried out onsite at one of our centres. However, if your mobility is restricted you have the option of submitting your lessons via video transmission.Once you have completed the online phase, contact your tutor to discuss Teaching Practice arrangements.
