Successful candidates will be awarded INTESOL WORLDWIDE’s
140 Hour Certificate in TEFL / TESOL Plus with Teaching Practice and a course transcript. You decide whether your certificate says TEFL or TESOL.
Now, for a small supplementary fee, you can have Dual Certification – that is, two certificates (one that says TEFL and the other TESOL)
This TEFL-TESOL Certificate is accredited by ALAP (Awarding Language Acquisition for Professionals), a UK based awarding body that specializes in English Language Teaching.
As part of the distance learning phase students are assigned an online tutor who will be there at all times to support and guide you throughout the course. Communication between students and online tutors is mainly via e-mail although video call tutorials can also be arranged. Once the registration process is complete the students can download the course materials into their computers and start work.
One of the advantages of taking an online TEFL / TESOL Certificate course such as this is its flexibility: you can work at your own pace and have no deadlines for submitting your work.
As you advance through the course units you will be receiving valuable feedback from your online tutor. It is not necessary to be online to work on the course. When you are ready to send in your materials all you need to do is attach your work to an e-mail.
The course includes a module on TEYL (Teaching English to Young Learners) that will prepare you for the Young Learners classroom. In today’s world, where most employers seek candidates who are qualified to teach young learners, this can be particularly advantageous. It also includes a unit on Teaching English Online, a highly desirable skill in today’s technological world.
For your Teaching Practice you will be teaching real Adult Learners of General English and also Young Learners / Teenagers. This experience will enable you to teach English effectively in a range of different learning contexts making you a very attractive candidate for a variety of teaching positions.
The teaching practice block involves observed teaching and lesson planning. There are also guided purposeful observations of qualified and experienced teachers.

The 140 Hour Certificate in TEFL / TESOL Plus with Teaching Practice consists of a distance learning phase plus a teaching practice block:
PHASE 1: DISTANCE LEARNING / ONLINE
PHASE 2: TEACHING PRACTICE
First you complete the online part of the course from home and learn about theories, methodology and applied practice of TEFL / TESOL. This will allow you to study at your own pace and in your own time. Then you start your teaching practice with us planning lessons and teaching real classes of students: these will be a range of adult, young and teenage English classes.
Such practical and varied experience will make you a very strong candidate on the TEFL / TESOL market.
The most obvious advantage of this type of course is its flexibility: You can complete the online / distance learning phase at your own pace and then decide when to take the teaching practice block. In any case, we will try to accommodate your needs and availability. It is generally expected that trainees inform the centre of their choice of dates for the teaching practice block four weeks prior to its commencement.
The Teaching Practice block is typically carried out onsite at one of our centres. However, if your mobility is restricted you have the option of submitting your lessons via video transmission.Once you have completed the online phase, contact your tutor to discuss Teaching Practice arrangements.
Unit 1: Study Skills (not assessed)

Unit 2: The Study of English
Module 1 – Inductive and Deductive Analysis and use of grammars – parts of speech and grammatical terminology – the tense system, reported speech, active and passive
Module 2 – Elements of pronunciation: intonation including rising and falling tones, sentence stress, weak forms – sounds of the language/phonology; word stress, schwa sound, phonemic chart – teaching a ‘pronunciation point’
Module 3 – Lexis selection: frequency and appropriacy – lexis formation: synonyms and antonyms, word stems, parts of speech including prefixes and suffixes
Unit 3: The Teaching and Learning of ESOL
Module 1 – Overview of EFL/ESOL issues – being a caring teacher, involving students, using realistic language, keeping the students interested, teacher talking time, correction, levels in EFL/ESOL teaching, visual aids, use of mother tongue; teaching for exams: Professional English Examinations; the role of grammar, classroom techniques, one to one teaching
Module 2 – Becoming familiar with the four primary language skills, identifying a range of skills needed for successful listening and reading, understanding some of the problems students experience when speaking and writing, knowing ways of training learners to develop the four skills, planning a receptive and productive skills lesson.
Module 3 – Errors – Recognising and, understanding why students make errors, preparing useful remedial exercises.
Module 4 – Understanding the overall aim of TEFL/TESOL, facilitating communication, classroom management techniques which encourage students to listen, speak and learn, understanding the importance of ‘need first’ teaching, recognising a variety of aids and being able to prepare your own aids.
Module 5 – knowing the importance of dividing an EFL/ESOL lesson into separate stages, understanding the role of the teacher at each stage, understanding the importance of adequate planning, writing a detailed lesson plan, bringing about and recognising student progress.
Unit 4: Teaching Online
Module 1 – Working for an online school, finding a good online school, building a strong client base, approaching a diagnostic lesson, choosing a suitable working platform, marketing yourself, creating your own website, planning your online TEFL/TESOL business
Module 2 – Understanding why it is important to design a long-term plan for your online course, practise planning a course, have the links to some useful sources of materials for your course, creating your own materials and the kind of materials you can create
Unit 5: Teaching Young Learners
Module 1 – Understanding how young learners are different from older learners and how it may affect your actions in the classroom or online, motivating your young students, managing a class of young learners including how to deal with discipline problems, group students and give instructions
Module 2 – Understanding what kinds of activities are suitable for a young learners class, know the difference between settlers and stirrers, know how to plan a lesson for young learners
Course content for the online phase is the same as the 120 Hour Online Certificate in TEFL / TESOL Plus.
The overall aim of The 140 Hour Online Certificate in TEFL / TESOL Plus with Teaching Practice is to prepare candidates thoroughly for their first English teaching job. This internationally accredited course provides the candidate with a good understanding of the theory and practice of teaching English together with guided, purposeful observations of qualified and experienced teachers.
Your progress will be continually evaluated. There are no exams. As you continue to improve in your teaching abilities your grade will continue to evolve to reflect your professional growth.

This Online TEFL / TESOL Certificate with Teaching Practice is estimated at 140 hours. The length of time required to complete the course varies from person to person. If you dedicate yourself to the course fully, for example an average of 3 hours a day, you can finish in four to six weeks. Most people, however, due to other life and professional commitments can only work on the course four or five hours a week and take between eight and twelve weeks to finish.
Shortly after you successfully complete the online course, you will be mailed your certificate and course transcript.
